If you do not spell num\u00adbers out it will look like you\u2019re sen\u00adding an instant mes\u00adsa\u00adge. But: if you are refer\u00adring to a con\u00adstant in an algo\u00adri\u00adthm, than it is ok to use the number:&nbsp;<ul>\n<li><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>There are 3 options\u201d -&gt; \u201cThere are three options\u201d<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>In the base case, the result is equal to&nbsp;1\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you are using latex, $this$ is not the right way to make the word \u201cthis\u201d in ita\u00adlics. $this$ means varia\u00adble t, h, i, s mul\u00adti\u00adplied toge\u00adther, and latex use odd spa\u00adcing bet\u00adween the let\u00adters becau\u00adse of that. Use $\\mathit{this}$ instead.<br>\nIf you are lazy, use $\\This$ but define:<br>\n\\usepackage{xspace}<br>\n\\newcommand{\\This}{\\mathit{this}\\xspace}<\/li>\n<li>[<span class=\"caps\">ENGLISH<\/span>] Whenever you com\u00adbi\u00adne two words to make an adjec\u00adti\u00adve, you should use a dash bet\u00adween them. If the two words are not used as an adjec\u00adti\u00adve, the dash is not needed.&nbsp;<ul>\n<li>A fault-tole\u00adrant protocol<\/li>\n<li>Fault tole\u00adran\u00adce is important<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Do not use the futu\u00adre ten\u00adse to discuss about the fol\u00adlo\u00adwing chapters\/sections\/whatever: may\u00adbe when you wri\u00adte, the next chap\u00adter has not been writ\u00adten yet, so it make sen\u00adse to talk about it in the futu\u00adre. They should just appear in their squa\u00adre brac\u00adke\u00adts at the&nbsp;end.&nbsp;<ul>\n<li><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>In [1] it is sho\u00adwn that\u201d -&gt; Tizio et al. have sho\u00adwn that.\u2026 [1]<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>[1] sug\u00adgests that \u201d -&gt; In 2008, Caio and Sempronio have sug\u00adge\u00adsted that\u2026 [1]\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The idea is that you want to make the life of the rea\u00adder sim\u00adple: if [1] is used as a sub\u00adject without any addi\u00adtio\u00adnal infor\u00adma\u00adtion, the rea\u00adder needs to inter\u00adrupt the rea\u00adding, go to the biblio\u00adgra\u00adphy, figu\u00adre out who is the author of [1], when the paper has been publi\u00adshed,&nbsp;etc.<\/li>\n<li>Latex-nazi:\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>blah blah \\cite{citation}\u201d -&gt; \u201cblah blah~\\cite{citation}\u201d<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"dquo\">\u201c<\/span>blah blah \\ref{reference}\u201d -&gt; \u201cblah blah~\\ref{reference}\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Simplify, sim\u00adpli\u00adfy, sim\u00adpli\u00adfy: avoid com\u00adplex sen\u00adten\u00adces, avoid secon\u00adda\u00adry, ter\u00adtia\u00adry etc sen\u00adten\u00adces. Do not think in Italian and trans\u00adla\u00adte in English \u2014 Italian is much more verbose.<\/li>\n<li>Simplify more!
